How often should you detail your car's interior?
For most Creston and Cranbrook drivers, a full interior detail once or twice a year is plenty, with a lighter clean in between. The right schedule depends on how you use the vehicle.
- Daily commuters: a full detail every six to twelve months, plus a quick vacuum monthly.
- Families with kids: every three to six months. Crumbs, spills and sticky surfaces build up fast.
- Pet owners: every three to four months, and more often during shedding season.
- Work trucks and vans: every three to four months, or whenever the carpet is visibly packed with dirt.
- Selling your vehicle: detail it before listing. A clean cabin helps it show better and sell faster.
Regular cleaning also takes less effort each time. A Refresh Interior costs less than a deep restore, so staying ahead of the dirt saves money.
Winter salt, sand and mud: protecting your carpet
Winter road treatment and spring mud get tracked into floor carpets all season. Left alone, salt can leave white stains on carpet and keep the floor damp, which leads to musty smells.
- Use rubber floor mats in winter. They catch most of the slush and are easy to wash.
- Shake out and vacuum carpets regularly rather than waiting for spring.
- Dry the cabin on a mild day by opening the doors for a while.
- Book a deep clean in spring to extract what's left in the carpet fibres.
Tip: White salt stains on carpet usually need extraction, not just vacuuming. Our
Restore Interior package includes carpet shampoo and extraction.
Getting pet hair out of your car
Pet hair weaves itself into fabric seats and carpet, so a regular vacuum often leaves most of it behind. Here's what helps at home:
- Use a rubber glove or squeegee and drag it across the fabric to ball up the hair, then vacuum.
- Work from the top of the cabin down so loose hair doesn't fall onto finished areas.
- Use a seat cover on the areas your pet uses most.
If the hair is deeply embedded, our heavy pet hair removal add-on can lift it out of seats and carpet.
Removing smoke and strong odours
Odours cling to carpet, seat foam and the headliner. Air fresheners only mask the smell for a while. Real odour removal means cleaning the source:
- Remove trash and clean out storage areas first.
- Clean fabric seats and carpet, then let them dry fully.
- Check the headliner and seat belts, which hold smells and are often missed.
- For stubborn smells, a professional deep clean is the most reliable fix.
We handle smoke, spilled milk, mildew and pet odours with the Restore Interior package and odour add-ons.
